ROSEANNE REID
Having built a reputation as one of the most sensitive and original artists on the roots music scene, Roseanne Reid brings her distinctive Americana sound to The Rio in Newport-on-Tay.
Born in Leith and raised in Edinburgh, Roseanne grew up in music, eldest daughter of the Proclaimers' Craig Reid. She began taking her own artistic steps aged 12, learning guitar, then honing her craft at local folk clubs and open mic nights.
Taking inspiration variously from Bob Dylan, Martha Wainwright and Peter, Paul and Mary, she pursued a path that led her in 2014 to New York's Catskill Mountains and Camp Copperhead, the songwriting workshop run by another guiding light, Steve Earle.
Such is the strength of Earle's endorsement and enthusiasm for her talent that he readily agreed to duet with Roseanne on a highlight of debut album Trails, Sweet Annie. That beguiling track has gone on to amass three quarters of a million streams on Spotify.
Her debut album was produced in Brooklyn by Teddy Thompson and since then, Roseanne has supported the likes of Thompson, Lucy Spraggan, Otis Gibbs, Ricky Ross and Justin Townes Earle.
Her song Amy was a winner of the International Songwriting Competition, judged by the likes of Lorde and Tom Waits, in the Lyrics Only category. Roseanne has also been a nominee for UK Song of The Year at the AMAUK Awards and the 2015 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, performing live on Radio 2.
Roseanne's sophomore album, Lawside, was released in 2023 and again met with acclaim by critics and fans alike. A highly successful UK tour with Steve Earle was followed by a support slot for Paul Heaton.
"Reid has clearly made members of folk-rock royalty sit up and take notice early in her career with her songs which are full of bluesy southern soulful stock, complemented by Reid's husky voice and simple but effective guitar playing'" - Americana UK
"An outstanding songwriter" – Steve Earle
"Her singing and song craft displays a talent and maturity awesomely beyond her years." - The Scotsman
"Exceptionally mature and inspiring Americana from the east coast of olde Scotia." - The Rocking Magpie
DAVID WEBSTER
As a key member of the acclaimed Sinderins and other outfits, as well as supporting and nurturing upcoming talent, Dundonian singer-songwriter David Webster has left an indelible mark on the local music scene and beyond.
Born and raised in the heart of the city, David was a founding member of indie-folk group Luva Anna. With his captivating vocals and skilled musicianship, he helped craft their unique sound that seamlessly blended folk, rock and hints of Celtic influence. The group garnered a dedicated following and earned critical acclaim for their emotive, introspective songwriting.
David went on to form Dundee-based collective AMWWF, further pushing the boundaries of his own artistic expression as he contributed to the supergroup's varied sonic explorations. AMWWF's cult-like status within the city's underground scene cemented David's reputation as a bold and innovative artist unafraid to take risks.
AMWWF evolved into Sinderins, within which he has continued to showcase his dynamic vocal range and knack for infectious melodies. Their legendary live shows have continued to wow audiences (two nights at the Gardyne Theatre earlier this year both sold out).
